Marc Mariani hosts NFL Play 60 event in Havre

HAVRE -

"Nothing feels better than to be home with my family and friends. To be out here on the day like this means a lot to me," said Havre native Marc Mariani.

"To be out here" was exactly the point of Mariani's NFL-sponsored Play 60 event in Havre on Tuesday.

"The main message is to get out there and be active," said the Chicago Bears wide receiver. "Get off the couch, get out from behind the phones, and get involved."

Mariani is still very much involved in Havre, even if he lives more than 1,000 miles away in Chicago.

"That's what gets me excited. I wanted to bring something to Havre that was a little more unique, and little more special," said the former Blue Pony. "We've done the autograph signing. We've done a couple other things. I thought this was really cool for the community."

That community is exactly what keeps him giving back.

"It means everything to me. I mean this is where I'm from. This is where my roots are. This is the community that I grew up in that shaped me into the person that I am. My parents still live in the house I grew up in, so to be able to come back and interact with the kids and know the kids on a first name, in person basis is awesome for me."
