Christina Aragon takes bronze at IAAF U-20 World Championships

Posted: Updated:

BYDGOSZCZ, Poland - Christina Aragon said her "Pie in the Sky" wish was to win a medal for Team USA Sunday. Turns out, wishes do come true.

Aragon won Bronze in the IAAF U20 World Championships 1500 meter final in Poland, in a new personal-best time of 4:08.71. The time lowers her already 4th-fastest pre-college mark in U.S. history.

The Billings Senior grad charged on the final lap of her last summer-season race, overcoming American rival Alexa Efraimson and holding off several others to get on the medal podium.

Aragon is the first American ever to medal in the 1500 meters at the event, previously known as the World Juniors.

Adanech Anbesa, of Ethiopia, won the race on 4:08.07. Her countrywoman, Fantu Worku, finished 2nd in 4:08.43.

Aragon will take two weeks off before heading to Stanford in August to begin her college career.
