120 animals seized from suspected puppy mill in Libby

Posted: Updated:

Multiple law enforcement agencies seized 120 animals from a Libby resident on Tuesday, including more than 50 dogs, in what they suspect to be an illegal puppy mill business.

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, Lincoln County Animal Care and The Humane Society of the United States say the dogs discovered at Adonai Rare Poodles were found to be living in "deplorable conditions" and suffering from various medical issues. Six donkeys, 60 parakeets and three canaries were also discovered on the property.

Lincoln County Sheriff Roby Bowe said the dogs suffered from infections and were underweight.

"I think that volume-wise and the poor conditions of so many dogs at once," Bowe said. "One interesting aspect of this is dealing with the Humane Society. They flew people in from Florida and Maryland to help assist."

Adonai Rare Poodles Owner Cathie Warren denies the allegations says she has been cooperative with the Lincoln County Animal Shelter for years.

"I have been fully compliant with all laws and regulatory requirements. Knowing that animal rights organizations are involved with the seizure of my high-value animals, I believe I was wrongfully targeted with the intention to mislead the public and damage my excellent reputation as a breeder."

Warren claims she faces monetary damages after the animals were seized.

Bowe says no charges will be filed until investigation is completed, hopefully in the next few days.

Warren says she plans to plead not guilty to any charges that may be filed against her.
