KALISPELL -

A Creston murder trial reveals more details behind the death of Wade Allen Rautio earlier this year.

Initial testimony sets the scene for what prosecutors are calling a drug-fueled murder.

The trial continued Tuesday with more witnesses testifying at the Flathead County Courthouse.

Robert Matthew Wittal, 29, is accused deliberate homicide in the death of 35-year-old Rautio back in May.

Wittal, along with 21-year old David Toman, 28-year-old Christopher Hansen, and 29-year-old Melissa Crone have all pleaded not guilty to charges of accountability to deliberate homicide.

Prosecutors allege that Wittal, Hansen, Toman and Rautio drove to the Peters Ridge area where Wittal stabbed Rautio to death and left his body in the creek.

On Tuesday, Wittal's girlfriend took the stand, describing his demeanor after the murder happened.

"Do you recall how the defendant was acting at the time?  His demeanor?"

"Relieved. He was really cocky, relieved," replied Alexis O'Lexey, who was Robert Wittal's girlfriend at the time of the murder.

The trial will continue on Wednesday morning at the Flathead County Courthouse.

(JUNE 15, 2016) Flathead County Undersheriff Dave Leib says that developments in the investigation into the homicide near Peters Ridge have resulted in two additional arrests.

Melisa Crone, 29, and Christopher Hansen, 28, both of Kalispell, are now behind bars pending deliberate homicide charges in the death of Wade Allen Rautio, 35, according to Leib.

Robert Matthew Wittal of Kalispell, 29, was arrested Monday on a charge of deliberate homicide.

Leib says that the murder appears to have been drug-related.

The initial investigation shows that Rautio had been stabbed multiple times.
