GREAT FALLS -

On Wednesday, November 2nd, Great Falls College-MSU will host several Suicide Prevention Day events to raise awareness about the risk factors of suicide and to educate people on how best to help those who are at risk.

Events run from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Heritage Hall at Great Falls College MSU, located at 2100 16th Avenue South.

“The goal of Suicide Prevention Day is to promote awareness of suicide risk factors and to better equip students, staff, faculty and community members to respond to those at risk,” said Elfie Neber, psychology faculty at GFC MSU.

At 12:30 p.m., there will be a public showing of the movie “The Bridge,” a documentary about the Golden Gate Bridge, where more people have chosen to end their lives than any other place in the world.

From 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., Karl Rosston, suicide prevention coordinator for Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services, will present QPR (Question-Persuade-Refer) Suicide Prevention Training.

Starting at 6:00 p.m., there will be a panel discussion on the effects of suicide. The panel include Mike Woods, who survived a suicide attempt; Peg and Brad Nimmick, Kathy Meier and several others whose loved ones have died by suicide. Jackie Fitzgerald, director of Voices of Hope, will moderate the panel.

Throughout the day, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., various community organizations will have resource tables and representatives outside Heritage Hall. There will also be informational posters about suicide created by GFC MSU psychology students displayed around campus.
