GREAT FALLS -

John Daniel Bangemen is facing a charge of assault with a weapon after he allegedly pointed a loaded gun at a woman.

Court documents say the woman told police that Bangemen pointed a semi-automatic handgun at her Sunday night during a argument at a house on 4th Avenue North.

She told a responding officer Bangeman was angry because she took his phone during the fight.

Bangeman said he was going to get his belongings downstairs, according to the woman, and then he came back upstairs and pointed the gun at her.

Another person in the home was able to "tackle" Bangeman, and then took the gun and hid it in a cooler.

The officer found the gun in the cooler; it was loaded with one round in the chamber and nine rounds in the magazine, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Bangeman reportedly admitted pointing the gun at the woman.

Prosecutors requested that bail for Bangemen be set at $10,000, noting that he has no known criminal history.
