The Trailer Terrace area south of Great Falls saw some welcome changes on Wednesday.

The new Eden Market officially opened for business, and a new well was turned on to bring clean water to the community.

Hundreds of people live in the area about four miles south of city limits, and for the last four years their small grocery store - once called Outback Market - has been closed.

Cascade County worked with Trailer Terrace to change zoning laws to re-open the grocery store.

After a decade of naturally-occurring arsenic in the drinking water, a new well has been installed and is now in use for the residents.

Organizers say the Eden Market will become the centerpiece of the community.

Sheila Rice of NeighborWorks Great Falls noted, "People can stop in from this community, and far beyond, the rural area around here, have a cup of coffee, have a loaf of bread, pick their kids up after school from the bus, all of that is really really important, so we feel like we've established a heartbeat for the community."

Owners have big plans for the store: “Eden Market is your locally owned and operated neighborhood convenience store. We’re your one-stop shop for fresh groceries, sundries, and more.”

The grand opening began at noon, and they served up free BBQ beef sandwiches, chips, coffee, cookies, muffins, hot cocoa, and a chance to win some prizes.

More than two dozen people turned out to celebrate.

The store will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day.
