(1st Report, 9 a.m.) A search is underway in Sweet Grass County where authorities are asking some residents to lock their doors.

According to the Sweet Grass County - Big Timber Facebook page, law enforcement officials are searching for two men who ran away following a traffic stop by a Montana Highway Patrol trooper.

On Sunday night, the Sweet Grass County Sheriff's Office asked residents on Main Boulder and East Boulder Road to lock their doors and their vehicles.

A few hours later authorities said it is possible the two men made it into Big Timber and again asked residents to lock their home and vehicle doors.

Authorities described the suspects as a white male about 6-feet, 6-inches tall, and a Hispanic male about 5-feet, 6-inches tall.

State troopers and deputies from Sweet Grass and Park counties are involved in the search.

There is no word yet on why the men were pulled over, or why they are believed to pose a danger to the public.

We will update you if we get more information.

(UPDATE, 10:32 a.m.) The Sweet Grass County Sheriff's Office says that the two suspects have a long criminal history and are wanted for assault on a peace officer, criminal endangerment, eluding, multiple traffic citations, and are possibly involved in the trafficking of a large amount of narcotics.

The Sheriff's Office says that the two men got off the interstate at Dehart after a high-speed chase and proceeded up a rural two-track road through a private pasture.

According to Sweet Grass County Sheriff Dan Tronrud, their car was found abandoned and the men are believed to in the hills between the Boulder Valley and the interstate.

On Sunday night Sheriff's deputies investigated a report of two men trying to enter the Pioneer Medical Center in Big Timber. Tronrud said an investigation found that the men in the video were not the two men currently being searched for by law enforcement.

(UPDATE, 5:40 p.m.) Both suspects have been arrested, according to Sheriff Tronrud.

Officers apprehended the men on Main Boulder Road south of Big Timber without incident.

Authorities used cellphone-pinging technology to locate the men.

One of the two men is in the country illegally and has been deported before, Tronrud said.

Both have criminal records in California and were driving through Montana in a rental car.

At the time of the attempted traffic stop on Sunday, the suspects allegedly threw large bags containing drugs out the vehicle's windows.

Authorities believe the bags contained about five pounds of methamphetamine, but the substances must be tested for confirmation.

The names of the suspects have not yet been released; we will update you when we get more information.
