BILLINGS -

Dale Edward Fredericks, who has six DUI convictions since 2001, faced a new charge Monday for allegedly driving under the influence on Sunday.

Fredericks, 52 years old, made his initial appearance in Yellowstone County Justice Court on Monday on one count of felony driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Fredericks was arrested Sunday after police received reports that a vehicle was traveling the wrong direction down North 27th Street near 6th Avenue North.

Another caller reported that the driver of that vehicle had parked outside the Rimrock Foundation, got out and stumbled, then got back into the vehicle.

When police arrived, they found Fredericks asleep on the bench seat of his truck.

Fredericks told police that he was at Rimrock Foundation to detox and claimed he had not consumed alcohol in the past 24 hours.

Police then found two empty whiskey bottles and one empty can of Twisted Tea on the floorboard of the passenger side of the truck.

Fredericks' eyes were glassy and his breath smelled strongly of alcohol, according to court documents.

When asked to perform a sobriety test, Fredericks had to lean against the truck to keep from falling down.

Fredericks refused to provide a breath sample for police, according to court documents.

His most recent DUI conviction was in 2011 in Lewis & Clark County, according to the Montana Department of Corrections.

Fredericks is being held at the Yellowstone County jail.
