The Cascade County "Buckle Up Montana" Coalition is hosting a free child safety seat checkup event from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 8th.
The event will be held at the Cascade City-County Health Department at 115 4th Street South.
Trained child passenger safety technicians will inspect car seats for correct model, size, and installation.
The CCHD says that, according to the Montana Department of Transportation, four out of five child safety seats are not correctly installed, which can result in children sustaining severe or even fatal injuries during a crash.
Properly installing and using car seats is the most critical component to protecting children on Montana’s roads, according to the agency.
People are invited to bring the vehicle, car seat, and child who uses it, to the safety seat checkup event.
Technicians will check for secure installation, proper harness adjustment, manufacturer’s size and weight limits, and manufacturer recall information.
Technicians will also answer questions and provide information about choosing the appropriate car seat as the child grows.
If you are not able to attend, appointments can be made with Mary Kay Burns 406-454-6750 for a full inspection.
The Child Passenger Safety Program is supported by the Montana Department of Transportation.
