Missoula Mercantile timber is up for grabs

Posted: Updated:

Floorboards and beautiful ceiling beams, all filled with the history of downtown Missoula and the surrounding area, are looking for a second life. Loads of wood from the Mercantile are up for grabs.

Home Resource will be selling bunks and individual pieces starting Tuesday, May 8 at 9 a.m. If interested, it is a first come first serve basis and buyers will receive stickers to place on the wood if they want to take it home.

Home Resource Executive Director, Katie Deuel says she has been getting a lot of phone calls about the historic lumber and is excited to place the wood back into the community.

“All of this wood was logged in the surrounding area, in our forests that surround Missoula. A lot of it around the turn of the century. Back then all those trees were old-growth trees. That means they don’t have a lot of knots in them. It’s really tight grain," Deuel said. "It’s really high quality wood, as well as being local and just part of our community and history.”

Deuel added if buyers can’t take home the timber day of, they can at least tag what they want and pick it up at a later date.
