GREAT FALLS -

Great Falls author Rachel Bateman recently landed a publishing deal with Running Press.

Her young adult coming-of-age novel, "Someone Else's Summer," went on sale several days ago, and is being sold in bookstores nationwide and online.

Roadhouse Diner hosted Bateman's book launch and signing on Saturday, and pledged to donate a dollar to the Great Falls Public Library for every burger sold during the event.

Bateman's novel is about a girl who loses her sister in a car crash, and finds her sister’s summer bucket list, and decides to honor her sister by finishing all the items on the list.

Bateman's success started when a friend convinced her to submit a synopsis of her novel to an annual contest called Pitch Madness.

Author Rachel Bateman explained: “You get 250 words of your book to pitch it to get into the contest, so at the last minute I threw together those 250 words, put it in, thought nothing of it. There were like twelve hundred submissions and sixty got in, and this book is one of them. And, from Pitch Madness, I got six agent requests, that turned into nine agent requests, and my agent offered to represent this book two day after she got it, and sold it five weeks after that.”

Bateman's novel has also been optioned for a Hollywood movie, and actress Bailee Madison of Hallmark Channel's "The Good Witch" has attached herself to play the main character if the project is green-lighted.
