1 person injured in shooting in Great Falls

GREAT FALLS -

Police are responding to a shooting in Great Falls.

It happened just before 10 p.m. on the 900 block of 3rd Avenue NW.

The GFPD says that one person was injured and taken to Benefis Health System hospital by ambulance.

The nature and extent of the person's injuries has not been disclosed.

Authorities have not yet released any information about the circumstances of the shooting.

Witnesses tell us that police, firefighters, and an ambulance responded to the scene.

Marc Oldham posted on the KRTV Facebook page: "Lot of police at 3rd Ave NW at 9 St NW, they have the intersection blocked and tape across the road."

Police ask that people avoid the area if possible as they continue to investigate.

There is no word yet on whether a suspect has been identified or apprehended.

(UPDATE, 11:45 p.m.) Several witnesses have told KRTV that the incident also involved activity at or near the Franklin Apartments, located just a few blocks away at 820 1st Avenue SW, and that is where the gunshot victim was taken from by ambulance.
