Squirrel Obstacle Race held at Wadsworth Park

GREAT FALLS -

Race Montana held their Fourth Annual Squirrel Obstacle Race at Wadsworth Park in Great Falls on Sunday.

What a better way to celebrate fatherhood than to present dad with an overwhelming amount of obstacles.

The course featured a cliff climb, tire flip, log crawl, potato sack hop, and more.

For an Air Force dad, the course was a unique way for him & his son to get in some exercise.

Shawn Rhude explained: “Like I said, being physically fit is really important to being in the Air Force, so besides just doing a normal workout, I thought it’d be something fun for us to do together, that’s different than just running around the track or something, so change it up, and you know, experience something different. We both enjoyed it, right? So, yeah.”

The fun but challenging 5k obstacle course featured more than twenty natural and manmade obstacles, but race organizers made appropriate obstacles for all ages, so that dad’s and their kids could complete it together.

A dad from Sandpoint, Idaho spent the weekend in Great Falls as a part of his extended summer vacation. He heard about the Squirrel Obstacle Course yesterday, so he registered just himself, but was overjoyed when he saw his daughter line-up at the start.

Ty Olsen explained: “I’m so proud, it’s so cool to watch her make it all the way through the course, and it’s just neat. It makes you really proud. It’s really cool, really proud of her.”

A Great Falls dad pulled off the overall win with his toddler son and wife cheering him on.

Zac Cleveland explained: “Pretty unexpected I guess, it’s one of the first events I’ve really done around here, so it was fun to win. / So, do you think it helped that your family was here to support you? /  Absolutely, you know, run better, try harder for your family whatever you do.”

Overall, the race was great way for participants, and especially fathers, to exhibit strength and resilience; with a touch of humor and excitement.
