GREAT FALLS -

Montana Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, or ESGR, committee members met with the program's new National Chair during their annual meeting at the History Museum in Great Falls recently.

The program seeks to educate employers on the importance of military service through outreach opportunities including job clinics and the boss lift.

Boss lifts give employers the chance to board aircraft like the Chinook CH-47 or Black Hawk UH-60 to see the training, education and daily operations required of their employees in service.

The meeting covered topics including apprenticeship program opportunities for active duty and for guard and reservists through state and federal governments.

Craig McKinley was appointed National Chair earlier this month and joined the group from Washington D.C.

McKinley served 38 years in the Air Force, and was Chief of the National Guard Bureau in Washington D.C. He also served as a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

"I always felt that as I retired from military service that I wanted to keep giving back to those men and women who continue to serve, this is my way of doing that and I appreciate Sec. of Defense Mattis for giving me this opportunity," said McKinley.

Montana ESGR's late State Director Chris Hindoien also received the Distinguished Civilian Service Award from Secretary of Defense James Mattis at the meeting.
