A man was reportedly stabbed in Great Falls on Sunday.
It happened about about 9:40 a.m. on Sunday.
The victim was taken to Benefis Health System hospital for surgery; he is said to be in stable condition.
According to the Great Falls Police Department, the suspect says it was self-defense.
The victim says he was walking down the street when someone came up and stabbed him in the side.
The suspect - whose name has not been released at this point - told police that the man he stabbed had threatened him with a hatchet, and that the stabbing was done in self-defense.
No arrests have been made in the case as police investigate the circumstances of the stabbing, police said.
Police have not yet found a hatchet or a knife, and are continuing to investigate.
