Eye On Great Falls (August 2017 - updated)

Posted: Updated:

Here's a look at some of the changes happening in Great Falls, including new businesses, construction in progress, recent closures, and other tidbits.

Burger Bunker and Big Bang Pizza will be closing their current locations and moving into the spot formerly occupied by Umami in downtown Great Falls. Umami closed in late June; the building is located at 24 Fifth Street South. Burger Bunker is currently in the Community Recreation Center on 2nd Avenue North; Big Bang Pizza opened nearly a year ago in the Columbus Building. Both are owned by John Williams, who also owns JJs Bakery on Central Avenue.

Inge Bucholz, who once owned Inge's Fashions in the now-shuttered Westgate Mall, notified KRTV on Tuesday that she plans to re-open her store at 614 10th Avenue South on October 2nd.

Several people have posted to the KRTV Facebook page that the Feedlot, located at 1701 3rd Street NW, has closed. We sent a reporter to check it out on Tuesday; the building is locked, there are no customers or staff, and no one has answered our several phone calls to the restaurant. There are no signs on the door indicating the reason, so we don't know if the closure is temporary, or permanent.

The large building on the northeast corner of Smelter Avenue and Old Havre Highway has been torn down to make way for a new Mountain View Co-op gas station and convenience store. Click here to read more.

Construction continues on an Ulta Beauty store in Great Falls, and an Ulta sign is now in place. It's located in the Westwood Plaza shopping center in the same area as the building that includes Dollar Tree, Staples, and T.J. Maxx. There is no word yet on the opening date.

Smoker's Express closed several weeks ago, and the building was torn down last week. In its place will be a new building that will be home to a second Papa Murphy's pizza shop and one other retail business. Click here for more information.

A new Best Wok sign recently replaced the New Peking sign at 1525 3rd Street NW. The New Peking closed nearly a year ago. The opening date has not yet been announced; a call to the current location yielded only a "pretty soon" response.

Panda Express plans to open a restaurant in the East End Retail Center near the new Walmart store along 10th Avenue South near 57th Street. Plans for the 2,587 square foot Panda Express include seating for 66 people, an outdoor patio, and a drive-through. The opening date has not yet been determined.

The Morning Light coffee shop on 9th Street North recently relocated to the building at 1701 9th Avenue South, which once housed La Pastada and most recently a child-care facility. Morning Light renovated the building and added a drive-through window.

The Kmart store in Great Falls will be closing permanently. It's located at 1000 3rd Street NW. The closure is one of dozens announced recently by the retail chain. The Great Falls store is expected to close by early October.

Hobby Land, the downtown Great Falls store that has been serving collectors and crafters for more than 25 years, is closing permanently. The last day of business will be August 31st.

Charlie's Corner Cafe recently opened in downtown Great Falls in the Times Square Building on the northwest corner of Central Avenue and 5th Street. Click here for more information.

Al Banco opened recently at 202 2nd Street South in Great Falls. Click here to read more.

Several sources have told KRTV that Industry Restaurant at 616 10th Avenue South has closed; we have not yet been able to confirm whether that is true. It opened in early 2016. Co-owner Cody Pedro purchased the Prospector Casino in 2015, transforming some of the interior into "Industry," a restaurant that specialized in American food while serving breakfast all day.

The West Bank Landing development on 3rd Avenue Northwest in Great Falls is starting to take form. The new hotel and existing "barrel building" are both under construction. Click here for details.
