(GREAT FALLS) Gerardo Reyes has been charged with felony sexual intercourse after he allegedly sexually assaulted a seven-year old girl on several occasions.
The child told her elementary school teacher about the incidents on Thursday; school officials contacted the Department of Family Services, who then notified the Great Falls Police Department.
The child said that the assaults had happened on a number of occasions.
The child claimed to have told her mother about the assaults, but her mother allegedly told her that “it must have been a mistake” and that Reyes “must have just placed his hand on her butt.”
According to court documents Reyes told the girl not to tell anyone about the incidents, and that it was a secret.
The mother confirmed to investigators that her daughter told her what had happened, but she only understood this to mean that Reyes had placed his hand on the girl's hip, and that it was his way of placing boundaries and not touching private areas.
Reyes was taken to to Benefis Health System hospital for a "suspect sexual assault examination," and then to the Cascade County Detention Center.
When interviewed by the police, Reyes denied any sort of sexual contact.
Prosecutors requested that bond for Reyes be set at $50,000.
