Obituary: Priscilla Combs

Posted: Updated:

Priscilla Mae Hockett Combs was greeted by her Heavenly Father on Friday, September 1, 2017 at the home she has lived in for the last 70 years.

A Memorial Service in honor of her life will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at 1:00 PM at the Westside United Methodist Church, 726 Central Ave West, Great Falls.

Priscilla was born on April 24, 1918 to parents Waldo and Ruth Wight Hockett in Vallejo, CA, where her father was a chemist at the Navy yards during WWI. She was the oldest of six siblings, (three sisters and two brothers).

When Priscilla was four years old, the family moved to Oskaloosa, IA, where they lived until she was 16 years old.

She remembered their move to Montana in 1934, with her dad and the two boys in an old battered truck and her mom and four girls following behind in a Model A Ford in what “must have looked like a gypsy caravan.”

Her mother wanted to arrive at their destination in Hall, MT at night so nobody would recognize them.

They lived there in an old eight room log house on the family ranch.

Priscilla graduated from Drummond High School in 1936 and began nurses training at Deaconess Hospital in Great Falls, MT, in August of that year.
