Meeting for proposed Madison Food Park moved to December

Posted: Updated:

The zoning meeting for the Madison Food Park has been moved to December.

The date for the special use permit application meeting for the multi-species food processing plant is now scheduled for December 7th at 9 a.m.

The meeting will be at the Family Living Center at Montana ExpoPark.

The date may still change due to the availability of the Cascade County Zoning Board of Adjustment.

Residents can submit public comment to the board up to the meeting, but if people wish to have there comments in the staff report, they must submit them by November 3rd.

They can be mailed to 121 4th Street North, Suite 2A, Great Falls, MT 59401.

The 3,000-acre facility would include food processing for cattle, pigs, and chickens. It would also incorporate facilities for the processing of milk and cheese products, as well as a distillery for the grain needed for Montana-branded spirits.

Developers expect the plant to create around 3,000 jobs, along with up to 85 supporting jobs in surrounding communities.

Supporters says the plant would provide more competition and reduce freight costs for producers..

Opponents concerns include a high turnover rate, more traffic odor issues, and decreased property values.
