The Lighthouse restaurant in Valier will soon be closing.

The owners posted a message on Facebook on Wednesday morning announcing the closure, and thanked all of their customers who have dined there over the decades.

The comments on the post soon filled up with people thanking them, and saying that they wish them the very best in their retirement. A sample:

  • Nooooo!! Steak with mustard sauce  & clam chowder! Trips home will not be the same! But you two deserve a wonderful retirement! Thank you for all of the delicious meals & great memories that were made at the lighthouse!
  • This is indeed bittersweet. I'm crying as I write This - you guys are so special to me, and so deserving of retirement, but oh, how I will miss Sue's cooking!!! Congratulations, I love you both!!!
  • Thank you Bob and Sue for all the wonderful memories you have created at the Lighthouse. It was, without a doubt, one of the best places to eat and enjoy life on the Eastern Front. Enjoy your retirement!

They plan to serve their last meals on December 31st.

There is no word yet on whether the restaurant might be up for sale.

We do make this announcement with joyful sorrow, and are grateful and indebted to our faithful patrons of several generations. Additionally, we are appreciative of the dedication and service of our staff, purveyors, suppliers, technicians, service & delivery personnel, who have all contributed to and helped to make all things possible over the course of 29 years.
It is indeed, bittersweet, with so many memories, and millions of happy guests over the last three decades. We would like to thank each and every one of you who came to see us over the last 29 years. We built a business with the help of great customers and a fantastic staff!
