Zakary William Weidner has been charged with several misdemeanors after allegedly stealing license plates and a car in Great Falls on Tuesday.
According to court documents, the Great Falls Police Department received information about a stolen Geo Metro parked at a residence.
When police arrived at a location where officers believed he could be found, they saw car pulling into the parking lot but accelerated once the police activated emergency lights and sirens.
Weidner did not stop when leaving the parking lot and sped north on to 6th Street South before speeding across 10th Avenue South.
Court documents state Weidner almost hit several vehicles and continued driving at unsafe speeds.
The Geo Metro was then abandoned and police found Weidner in the 600 block of 7th Street South.
In an interview with police, Weidner admitted to stealing the license plates from behind the Target store and to stealing the Geo Metro.
Weidner has been charged with three counts of theft, eluding police, reckless driving, failure to stop, and driving with a suspended license.
He also has three out-of-county warrants.
The Montana Department of Corrections currently lists Weidner as a probationer from Billings; he has a felony conviction for burglary in Yellowstone County.
