Fire destroys residence west of Great Falls

Posted: Updated:

The residence has been deemed a total loss.

Jason McAllister of the Vaughn fire department said that the fire was "pretty well involved" by the time crews arrived, with flames coming out of the home.

There was one person inside when the fire broke out; the person was able to get out with no injuries.

McAllister says that the fire appears to have started near the furnace heater.

He said that the extreme cold hampered their efforts, as did the road conditions.

There is no word yet on whether the resident(s) of the home require assistance; we will try to find out.
