Historic ghost walk turns back time in Helena

Posted: Updated:

Forty-five people signed up for the historic ghost walk through Helena neighborhoods on Saturday.

Some stops included the Aneleh Apartments, the original Governor's Mansion, and the Courthouse Square area.

Participants guessed what they thought happened at the buildings to see if their hypotheses lined up with the facts.

Ellen Baumler is the interpretive historian at the Montana Historical Society and she elaborated on the 'shenanigans' that occurred in the 1800s.

"We live in these communities but we don't really know of the really early history behind some of the buildings and some of the houses," Baumler said. "I think it's fun for people to learn that because it's like peeling back some of the historic layers."

Baumler said she enjoys giving the tours as the subject of history is her passion in life.
