Obituary: Wallace Holland

Our Dad was born in Butte, America on June 20, 1932 to Henry and Mary (Stacy) Holland. He would be their only child.

Dad was proud of his 3rd generation Montana heritage. His grandmother was born at Ziegler Hot Springs near Twin Bridges in 1879 and his dad was born near Rosebud.

Dad passed away peacefully on October 29, 2017 at Peace Hospice in Great Falls.

Dad lived his first 6 years at the top of Homestake Pass where his dad was the Northern Pacific Railroad section foreman. The family transferred to Drummond so Dad could go to school.

He was a very adventurous and enterprising young man. He graduated from the Pillsbury Academy in Minnesota in 1950, where he played football and readied for his career in the Air Force. Dad was a military policeman and a veteran of the Korean War.

In 1957, Dad married our Mom, Josephine, while stationed in Fairford, England. They returned to Malmstrom AFB for 6 years and then returned to England in 1964 until 1967. They later divorced.

Dad retired from the Air Force in 1972 and in 1973 married Viola Stanfield. They ranched outside of Geyser until their divorce.

Dad moved into Geyser, where at times he was the unofficial “Mayor”, active in the Geyser Senior Citizens, RSVP and the VFW.

On December 15th, 2006, he married the love of his life in Geyser, our bonus Mom, Sharon Backa. She brought so much love and joy to our Dad. We will be forever grateful for his happiness these last 11 years.

Dad loved to hunt and fish; something that he passed on to his grandsons. He loved to hear their hunting stories when he wasn’t able to go with them anymore.
