Roy Max Aafedt, 83, of Great Falls, passed away at home Sunday evening, November 12, 2017.
He was born in Great Falls, Montana on April 22, 1934 to Emma and Ole Aafedt. He had seven siblings: Joe, Mabel, Ole, Emma, Clara, Al and Mel.
Roy attended local elementary schools and Great Falls High School. His military service included serving in the United States Naval Reserve for three years followed by serving in the Army Signal Corps.
His basic training was at Fort Ord, California and he went on to Camp Gordon, Georgia. He was a specialist first class and spent time in Korea, being honorably discharged from Fort Lewis, Washington in 1957.
After his military service, he worked at Boeing as an aircraft mechanic. He also attended Northern Montana College in Havre, Montana.
Donna Dunnigan Thomas and Roy were married April 16, 1965 in Coeur D’Alene, Idaho. He cherished their two boys, Philip Kenneth Thomas and Robert Lee Thomas.
Roy worked in car retail sales and was a co-owner with Modern Homes in Great Falls, as well as owning his own Aafedt Storage Center.
He sold insurance for Met Life, real estate for the Cogswell Agency and worked for Nordak. His favorite job was serving as Cascade County Commissioner from 1992-1998, a job he truly loved.
