NorthWestern Energy has confirmed that a power outage is affecting parts of Great Falls.

We have received numerous reports from people on the east side of Great Falls that they are without power, primarily near 10th Avenue North east of 38th Street.

As of 8:14 p.m., the utility company says that the outage is affecting about 291 customers.

"Customers" often refers to a business or a residence, so the number of people without electricity is often much higher than that figure.

NorthWestern Energy estimates that power will be restored by about 9:15 p.m.

The cause of the outage has not yet been confirmed.

People began posting messages about the outage on the KRTV Facebook page at about 7:30 p.m. Among the messages:

  • Roy Kennedy: Power is out on the east side by the soccer fields since about 7:15
  • James Sabo: North East side of town without power .... portage meadows , specifically.
  • Beth Zook: There is a power outage over on 8th ave N. We have no power. Its been about an hour now.

Safety reminder: if traffic lights are not working due to a power outage, the intersection must be treated as a four-way stop.
