Obituary: Ronald Lee Shockley

Ronald Lee (Barney) Shockley was born Nov 26, 1921 in Turner, Montana, to parents Hughes E. and Myrtle Grace (Church) Shockley.

He graduated from Turner High School, then moved to Great Falls in 1940 and graduated from Great Falls Commercial College.

In July 1941, he was employed by Montana Bank and Trust Co until Oct, 1942 when he served in the U S Army in World War 11 for three years in French North Africa. He rejoined Montana Bank in 1946.

In 1947, he married Grace Todd, who came to Great Falls from Harlowton. They enjoyed 54 years of marriage raising their two daughters. Grace passed away in 2002 after suffering with Alzheimer's disease.

Shockley is a graduate of the Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington, and the American Institute of Banking.

He has had numerous leadership roles in civic undertakings, serving as President of the Great Falls Area Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the Business Division of the Community Chest and United Way, a charter member of old AD Club, helping with that organizations annual C M Russell Art Auction beginning with its inception.

Shockley is a 60+ member of First United Methodist Church of Great Falls, Cascade Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Al Bedoo Shrine Temple, and a charter member and Treasurer of the Great Falls Shrine Bagpipe Band.
