Obituary: Mark Mansfield

Korean War Veteran Mark Gervis Mansfield, 88, of Great Falls, MT died of natural causes on December 22, 2017 at Peace Hospice in Great Falls. 

A Viewing will be at Croxford Funeral Home on January 4, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 pm.

The Funeral will be at LDS East Stake Center, 1015 15th Ave. S, at 11:00 am on January 5th, with a viewing one-hour prior in the church. 

Military Honors and Burial will be at Highland Cemetery directly after the service.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Verda Mansfield; sons, Terry Lee Mansfield and Kenneth Mark (Penny) Mansfield; 7 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Manilla Mansfield; daughter-in-law, Mary Mansfield; brothers, Dewey (Ida) Mansfield, Irene (Curt) Shaffer, George (Edith) Mansfield, Alta (Dale) Chlarson, Lorenzo Mansfield and 2 infant twin granddaughters.

Mark was born the 4th child on May 6, 1929 in Park City, Utah.  He grew up in Plymouth, Utah where he met the love of his life on New Year’s Eve 1949 at a church dance. 

He joined the military in 1950 and was first stationed at Camp Polk, Louisiana, where he and Verda were married. 

After 2 short months he was sent to Japan and then Korea for the Korean War.  He got out of the military in 1952 and started working for the Air Force Civilian Services. 

Their first son was born in Ogden, Utah in 1955. 

Mark got the opportunity to transfer with the Civil Service and moved the family to Great Falls, MT where their second son was born in 1960. 

Mark and Verda were sealed for all time and eternity in the Logan, Utah Temple on July 15, 1965.
