Finley Wayne Dodge has been charged with one felony and seven misdemeanors for allegedly breaking into and stealing from several vehicles in Great Falls.
Court documents state that on Monday, February 5th, police officers responded to the area of 7th Avenue North and 49th Street for a report of a suspicious person.
The person who called 911 said that the suspicious man had carried backpacks around the area and had been seen getting into several vehicles.
A police officer saw a vehicle with an open door, and footprints in the fresh snow leading away from the vehicle. Officers followed the prints for about a mile and eventually came across Dodge; they noted that there no other people or footprints in the snow, and Dodge was wearing boots with the same print pattern as the prints the officers had followed.
In the area nearby, officers found several items and were able to determine owners for some of the property that had reportedly been stolen.
Officers identified seven vehicles that had been broken into or otherwise entered without the owners' permission.
Items reported missing from two of the vehicles are valued at more than $1,500.
Court documents state that Dodge had three theft convictions, one of which is a felony, along with revocations, violation of release conditions, assaults, disorderly conduct, and obstructing.
Dodge is being charged with felony theft (3rd or subsequent offense), and seven misdemeanor counts of a criminal trespass to vehicles.
Prosecutors requested that bond for Dodge be set at $7,500.
