Thieves slam truck into Walgreens store, steal ATM

    SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police are looking for a group of thieves who rammed a truck into a Midway District Walgreens store and took off with an ATM early Tuesday morning.

According to San Diego police, the robbery took place at the Walgreens store in the 3000 block of Midway Drive, near Rosecrans Street, at 3:40 a.m.

Police told 10News a silver Ford F-250 pickup truck crashed into the store’s glass front doors and 5-7 people wearing gloves and masks entered the store through the broken windows and doors.

The thieves were able to remove an ATM, placed it in the bed of the truck and fled the scene.

At least one worker were inside the store at the time of the incident, but the employee was not injured.

A short time later, the truck and a white van also used by the group were found abandoned in the 2100 block of Hancock Street, about a half mile away from the Walgreens.

Police found the ATM still in the bed of the truck, but it was not immediately determined if the thieves stole anything from inside it. Police said the van and truck were reported stolen from the National City area.

A description of the thieves was not immediately available.

10News learned police have obtained surveillance video of the incident and will look through it.
