GREAT FALLS — The Giant Springs Chapter of Credit Unions is hosting their annual Garage Sale For Good on Saturday, August 10.

Every year, Garage Sale For Good proceeds are donated to a cause in the community.

This year, all proceeds will benefit the Montana School for the Deaf & Blind (MSDB) and the Montana Lions Club Low Vision Reader Project.

By raising money for the Low Vision Reader Project, MSDB and the Lions Club can purchase portable tablets with magnifier capabilities and access to Google applications.

The tablets allow low vision children to take pictures of various items, which the tablet then magnifies, making it easier to read.

Great Falls Lions Club Member Mark Willmarth said the Lions Club of Montana started out with the goal to raise $300,000 to buy 100 portable tablets.

The goal has been met but additional readers for low vision children across the state are still needed.

Mark said, “This changes their life and their ability to kind of compete with sighted people. I mean it changes their world and to be able to have those devices. There’s a lot of need out there.”

The annual Garage Sale For Good will offer items that were donated by staff from each credit union in Great Falls and other community members.

It takes place at the 1st Liberty Credit Union on 401 Smelter Avenue from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
