GREAT FALLS — Volunteers gathered inside Albertsons on 10th Avenue South for a community food and goods drive Saturday.

With Veterans Day on Monday, veterans like Dennis Burns wanted to get a head start on raising funds and awareness for the Great Falls Vet Center.

“We’re out here today for food for the vet center downtown. Their shelves are just about empty right now. We also are taking donations for clothing and stuff like that,” Burns said.

And the veterans weren’t the only ones spreading the word. A group of children - all relatives of veterans- also helped with the fundraiser.

“This is so they can get the perspective to know what veterans have gone through to protect this country,” Burns said.

Several bags full of goods from generous donors and monetary donations received will go to help veterans this winter.

“A lot of these veterans don’t have proper clothing. You know it’s coming wintertime and whatever we can do that’s what we’re going to do,” Burns said.
