1 person dead in crash near Polson

The Montana Highway Patrol says that one person died in a crash in Lake County on Monday.

According to the MHP, it happened along along US Highway 93 near mile marker 64, several miles northwest of Polson.

The crash was reported to the MHP just after 8 a.m. on Monday.

The name of the victim and the cause of the crash have not yet been released.

We will update you when we get more information.


(UPDATE, 3:44 p.m.) The victim has been identified as a 22-year old man from Elmo.

Lake County Sheriff Don Bell says Olijah Nathaniel James, 22, of the Elmo died from the injuries he sustained in the crash.

According to Montana Highway Patrol Trooper John Raymond, the man rolled his vehicle and was ejected as the vehicle landed in the ditch. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

Raymond says the highway was slick, as road conditions were icy and covered in slush at the time.

It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs are factors in the deadly crash.
