Jason Morris, a former Montana teacher, has been sentenced to over 10 years in federal prison with lifetime supervised release for child pornography.
According to the Department of Justice, in the summer of 2013, Morris, of Heron, met a minor online and began an internet relationship.
The communications lasted until approximately the fall of 2014. Morris became aware of the minor’s age and engaged in sexually explicit conversations with the minor.
A press release from the DOJ states that Morris received sexually explicit images of the minor.
In November of 2015, law enforcement executed a search warrant of Morris’ residence and collected several items of electronic media. Several images and videos of child pornography were discovered on the media.
After the search, Morris fled to Mexico but was later arrested on the instant charges in April of 2017.
Federal prosecutors noted the seriousness of Morris’ actions and the need to protect children from him.
As there is no parole in the federal system, Morris will likely serve all of the time imposed by the court although he does have the opportunity to shorten the term by earning credit for good behavior.
However, the reduction will not exceed 15 percent of the overall sentence.
