Several women were recognized Saturday evening at the YWCA 26th Annual Salute to Women Gala.
The seven women were honored for their work in the community ranging from volunteer work to health services, education, and entrepreneurship.
One of the women even inspired a new award.
“We created a new award this year. It’s the Shelia Rice Lifetime Achievement Award, so we’re honoring her this year and then we will continue to call it the Shelia Rice Lifetime Achievement Award in the future for people who serve the community for their lifetime,” said YWCA Executive Director Sandi Filipowicz.
Mackenzie George won the Young Women of Tomorrow Award. Courtney Cowgill won the Business or Entrepreneurship award and Mary Papoulis won the Creative Arts and Communication Award.
The Education Award was given to Kathryn Van Tighem.
Annie Brown received the Health and Human Services Award and Tonya Rolando won the Volunteer and Community Service Award.
