University of Providence announces commencement activities

The University of Providence will celebrate its 84th commencement and the first under the University’s new name on Saturday, May 5, at 10 a.m. in the McLaughlin Center gymnasium.

The class of 2018 includes 80 Montana students and nearly 270 students from 20 other states.

A number of international students from Mexico, Germany, England, Denmark, Slovakia, and Canada will also march.

Sister Karin Dufault will deliver the keynote address and receive an honorary degree for her service.

A reception that is open to the public will follow in the library.

Commencement activities begin on Friday, May 4, however, with a Nursing Pinning ceremony at 11:30 a.m. at Trinitas Chapel followed by a reception at Meadowlark Country Club.

A Counseling Pinning ceremony will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Friday in the McLaughlin Center, Fireside Conference Room.

An outdoor barbecue starts at 4:30 p.m. followed by a Baccalaureate Mass in Trinitas Chapel at 6:30 p.m.

According to a press release, the University of Providence’s Class of 2018 includes:

  • Aja Anderson from Arvada, Colorado, a biology and forensic science major who was awarded the Laurie Henneman Outstanding Student Presentation Award for Best Undergraduate Research Oral Presentation at the Montana Academy of Science Annual Conference.
  • Molly Herron from Havre, a biology major who was awarded the Best Original Research Poster Presentation at the University of Providence Undergraduate Research Symposium and is recognized with Outstanding Achievement by a student in a major.
  • Colton Johns from Deer Lodge, a mathematics major and rodeo student athlete who is recognized with Outstanding Achievement by a student in a major.
  • Abby Knight from Charlo, a biology major who was awarded the Best Literature Review Poster Presentation at the University of Providence Undergraduate Research Symposium.
