On Saturday, May 19, the Sand Coulee Volunteer Fire Department will host its first-ever Gopher Hunt and Community Dinner Fundraiser.

“Dutton Fire Department does a really good one every year. They have done a good job with it so that gave us the idea,” Chris Kindred, Sand Coulee Firefighter said.

The registration and breakfast for the Gopher Hunt will take place between 8 a.m to 10 a.m.

Hunters must be back to the fire station by 5 p.m with all the gophers they shot in hand.

“At about 6 o’clock we will be starting the dinner. There will be a silent auction, raffles and a baroque dinner,” Kindred said.

There will also be an extraction demonstration at 5 p.m., bounce houses for kids, and a Mercy Flight helicopter will be flying over.

The goal is not only to raise money, but also to also get the community involved and more volunteers in the door.

"I think it is awesome with how many people have come together. We have over 10 thousand that was donated just to make the fundraiser night happen,” Kindred said.

There is still time to register for the gopher hunt – it is $50 for a two-person team.

If you are participating in the gopher hunt you most follow all rules that you would follow during regular hunting season.
