Crash victim identified as Helena man

(UPDATE) Colby Hurt, 28, has been identified as the man who died.

He was taken to a Garfield County hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Sheriff Clay Lammers said it appeared Hurt fell asleep at the wheel while driving at a high rate of speed.

Lammers said Hurt was not wearing a seatbelt. 

There were no signs of drug or alcohol use and no one else was in the vehicle. 


(1st Report, 10:57 a.m.) A 28-year-old Helena man died in a crash Monday evening near Jordan. 

The name of the man has not yet been released. The crash was reported at 6:43 p.m. and happened on Montana Highway 200. 

According to the Montana Highway Patrol, the man was driving a Pontiac Vibe east on the outskirts of Jordan when the car slid off the road and overturned in a ditch. 

The driver was pronounced dead after being transported from the scene. 

The MHP reports that the man was not wearing a seat belt and it appears speed was a factor. 

There were no signs of drug or alcohol use. 

No one else was in the vehicle. 

The MHP is continuing to investigate.
