The Special Olympics State Summer Games kicked off on Wednesday and to celebrate, the opening ceremonies took place later in the evening.

The stands were packed and the crowd was excited as they chanted, “Let’s get fired up, we are fired up!”

The theme for this year’s 2018 State Summer Games is ‘Rise Above the Roar’ while the opening ceremony’s theme was ‘Fire Within.’

And that is what the night was all about, celebrating the athletes and the fire they have within them.

The action continues on Thursday and goes until Friday.

The Summer Games feature over 900 athletes taking part in 11 different sporting events including track and field, gymnastics, cycling, and swimming.

Athletes of all abilities and ages are featured; the youngest being eight years old and the oldest ringing in at 77.
