The Black Eagle Volunteer Fire Department responded to a small fire along Smelter Avenue Northeast near the Black Eagle Community Center on Tuesday evening.
According to Fire Chief Michael Deshayes, some people found an anthill and attempted to burn it out. The wind came up, however, and the fire took off.
Black Eagle Fire was able to respond in less than a minute and had the fire contained in about three minutes.
"What’s lucky is we were just leaving quarters to go to training," Deshayes said. "We were turned around and got here pretty quick."
The fire burned less than a half acre.
Deshayes warned the public that even though the grass looks green, it’s still dry.
"We ask people that if it’s windy, don’t do a burn," he said. "Just be safe."
