The annual Montana Statehood Centennial Bell Award will be going to Tony Coppola, a 9th-grade teacher from Lone Peak High School.
Coppola has just completed his fifth year as a social studies teacher at Lone Peak.
In a press release, he said, “Personally, Montana has the kind of history that makes you smile, cry, blush, and even sometimes leaves you with a sense of disbelief. That range of emotion is why I love the subject.”
In nomination letters, Tony’s principal and students describe him as exciting, energetic, and one who leaves an everlasting impact on each and every one of his students.
Tony will receive his award at a ceremony in the state Capitol on Statehood Day, which is November 8th.
He and his students will get the opportunity to ring the Statehood Centennial Bell.
Tony will also receive monetary gifts from the Montana History Foundation, the Sons and Daughters of Montana Pioneers, and the Montana Television Network.
In years past, Tony has also been recognized as the Montana History Teacher of the Year.
