(GREAT FALLS) Clifford Keith Richards is facing criminal charges after he allegedly assaulted a woman in Great Falls.
A Sheriff’s deputy responded to a report of an assault on the 5900 block of 2nd Avenue North on Wednesday, August 1st.
The deputy saw a "large amount of bruising" on the right side of the woman’s face and around her eye socket. The woman told the officer that she had gotten into an argument with RIchards that escalated, and said that he pushed her to the ground.
According to court documents, she said that he began pulling her toward the doorway, and she sustained injuries to her knees and arms. The deputy noted that her injuries were consistent with her allegations.
The woman then said that Richards choked her, and when she tried to fight back, he continued squeezing her throat. She told Richards that she would leave if she could get her cell phone, and Richards then took her phone and broke it into two pieces.
Court documents say that Richards told the deputy that he had been drunk at the time of incident, and could not remember all of the details of the fight.
Richards, 23 years old, is charged with strangulation of a partner or family member (felony), and criminal destruction of or tampering with a communication device (misdemeanor).
Prosecutors requested that bond for Richards be set at $25,000, and asked that if he bails out, he should be prevented from coming within 1,500 feet of the woman, her residence, or workplace.
