There is no word yet on the cause or manner of the man’s death.

Searchers included three ground teams, three dog teams, a horse team, and a helicopter. The heli-alpine team from Gallatin County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue helped recover the body from a steep rocky chute in Sweet Grass County.

Sweet Grass County Sheriff Dan Tronrud will release the man’s identity once all family notifications have been made.

(1st Report, 11:14 a.m.) Search and rescue personnel are trying to find a man reported missing in the Crazy Mountains.

The Park County Sheriff’s Office says that at about 10:20 p.m. on Monday, dispatchers received a report of an overdue male hiker in the Crazy Mountains near the Cave Lake area. The 39-year old man, whose name has not yet been released, was volunteering with the Rocky Mountain Goat Alliance on a project with the Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks.

Sweet Grass County Sheriff’s deputies confirmed the man’s vehicle was at the trailhead in Sweet Grass County, where he was reported to have departed from.

On Tuesday morning, Sheriff’s deputies requested and received assistance from Two Bear Air with an infrared-equipped helicopter, who attempted to locate the man, but they have not yet been successful.

Park County Search and Rescue, along with the Park County Sheriff’s Office, FWP, and other volunteers, are continuing to search the area.

The search includes two ground teams that hiked the area, as well as Rocky Mountain Rotors who helped with air support, transport, and air search.

The terrain they are searching in is very rugged and remote.
