(MISSOULA) A woman drowned Thursday while swimming at Lake Como.
The woman’s name has not yet been released.
Witnesses attempted to find the 28-year-old Florence-area woman after she reportedly slipped beneath the surface of the water while swimming, according to the Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office.
The Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office, Marcus Daly Ambulance, Darby Marshal’s Office, and Ravalli County Search and Rescue responded to the lake where rescue attempts were made.
Ravalli County Sheriff Steve Holton said search and rescue personnel eventually found the woman about 80 feet from the shore in water that was 12 to 15 feet deep.
Divers recovered the woman, who was declared dead at the scene.
Holton said the circumstances surrounding the drowning are being investigated.
