(HELENA) On Tuesday, law enforcement officers in Helena served the public pizza for the annual Tip-A-Cop fundraiser at Mackenzie River Pizza.

Now in its seventh year, Tip-A-Cop benefits the Law Enforcement Special Olympics Torch Run which helps cover the costs of competing and training for Special Olympics athletes.

Athletes joined Montana Highway Patrol troopers, Helena Police officers, FWP game wardens and Lewis and Clark County sheriff deputies to make and served pizza for Mackenzie River Pizza customers.

“It’s a great event for cops to get to know the citizens and the citizens to know cops and local athletes,” said Deputy Michael Bruce with the Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s Office, “And for everybody to come together and have a good time for a great benefit and great cause.”

Bruce has been involved with Special Olympics for 4 years and loves to see the continuous community support.

“It’s really awesome and every year the turnout is crazy,” said Dan Osborne with Mackenzie River Pizza, “Mackenzie is the type of company that likes to really get involved and support the community.”

$2 for every specialty pizza “The Guardian” sold was donated to Special Olympics and people could also donate an addition to purchasing the pizza.

Last year more than $27,000 was raised through Tip-A-Cop for Special Olympics and over $109,000 has been raised for Special Olympics since 2011.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run raised more than $652,000 for Special Olympics Montana in 2017.

Law enforcement say events like Tip-A-Cop and the Polar Plunges a key to helping them support Special Olympics Montana.
