Cascade County Commissioners are having to wait a few more weeks before they are able to pass the county’s 2018/2019 budget.
Last Thursday the Montana Department of Revenue notified the commissioners that the certified values that were provided to the county are not correct.
Commissioner Jane Weber says this is related to the 2017 protested taxes by Calumet Refinery.
The commissioners have not received the updated numbers so they are unable to pass the budget as it stands right now.
"It is difficult to project in this point in time because we do not know how it is going to affect the newly taxable column of the taxable evaluation. If it all comes out as newly taxable, it will have a different impact on than if it is partially newly taxable or partially on old taxes,” Joe Briggs Cascade County Commissioner said.
The commissioners hope to be able to pass the budget on September 25.
This will also affect the City of Great Falls budget and possibly the Great Falls Public School District’s budget.
