(GREAT FALLS) Young adults in Great Falls have a chance for their voice to be heard by community leaders on Wednesday, October 3rd during the “Future of the Falls: Young Leaders Forum.”
Hundreds of young adults and community leaders are expected to gather at the Great Falls Civic Center to share ideas, brainstorm, and have a productive conversation about our community.
The roots for this forum date back around six months, to when Great Falls Mayor Bob Kelly, and Great Falls City Commissioner Mary Sheehy Moe reached out to leaders of young professional groups such as Connect Great Falls, Leadership Great Falls, and KRTV’s Five Under 35. A planning committee was born, and from it came the “Future of the Falls: Young Leaders Forum.”
The idea for the forum is structured around this question: “If young people had the keys to the city, what would they like to see change?” The conversation at the forum will be guided by facilitators Jennifer Fritz and Heather Palermo. The forum will involve both listening and sharing in a large group, and small roundtable groups.
A survey has been circulating to gather information about what kind of topics people are interested in discussing most, such as recreational opportunities, housing, volunteerism, career growth, and more.
Forum planning committee Libby Sielski said, “We wanted to make sure young people understand their voice is very important and needs to be heard by community leaders when it comes to community matters.”
“Build upon what we’re already doing well, but then find areas of maybe weaknesses, or barriers, and come up with solutions. So we want to be very results and solution driven in tone, as opposed to it being a complaining session about what isn’t happening,” said forum facilitator Jennifer Fritz.
The planning committee hopes this is the first in a series of forums.
Anyone is invited to come on Wednesday, but the focus will be on conversation with those 40 years old and younger.
