Third COVID-19 death reported at Montana State Prison

The Montana Department of Corrections (DOC) has announced that an inmate has passed away due to a COVID-19 related illness.

The 62-year-old Montana State Prison inmate passed away at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula on Wednesday, according to a news release.

No further information will be released in regards to the death.

This is the third COVID-19 related death confirmed in a Montana inmate.

DOC notes that while the death occurred in Missoula County, it will be attributed to Powell County, where the Montana State Prison is located.

“The Montana Department of Corrections extends its condolences to this individual’s family and friends,” DOC Director Reginald D. Michael said in a statement.

A total of 401 inmates have been infected since COVID-19 was first detected at the Montana State Prison in mid-October.

DOC report that as of Friday there were 112 active COVID-19 cases.
