GREAT FALLS — There were 569 new cases and no new deaths added to the total on the Montana COVID-19 tracking site on Monday morning. The data below is from the official Montana website on October 19:
- TOTAL CASES & RECOVERIES: There have been 23,390 cumulative cases statewide, with 13,538 people recovered.
- HOSPITALIZATIONS: There are 339 current hospitalizations, and a cumulative total of 1,020 hospitalizations.
- DEATHS: The cumulative number of deaths in Montana is at 241.
- ACTIVE CASES: The state reports there are currently 9,611 active COVID-19 cases in Montana.
- TESTING: There were 11,232 completed tests, for a new cumulative state-wide total of 442,366.
Numbers reported by the state each day occasionally differ from those reported by county public health departments due to periodic lag times in reporting data to the state. We encourage people to check the official website and/or Facebook page of their respective county health department for any information that is not yet included in the state's daily updates.
Although not yet reflected in the official state database, several health departments reported new deaths on Monday morning:
- The Glacier County Health Department said that three more Glacier County residents have died due to COVID-19. The three are a man in his 30's, a man in his 50's, and a woman in her 60's. This brings the number of deaths in Glacier County to ten.
- Lewis & Clark Public Health in Helena reported a fifth COVID-19-related death of a Lewis & Clark County resident.
- Missoula City-County Health Department says that a resident died Sunday due to complications related to COVID-19 infection. To date, eight county residents have died due to complications related to COVID-19 infection.
Based on additional data from county health departments, MTN News is reporting the following:
- Deaths: 262 (+22 from state numbers)
- Active Cases: 8,959 (-652)
- Recoveries: 14,521 (+983)
- Total cases: 23,743 (+353)
It's important to note that not every person who tests positive actually becomes ill or exhibits symptoms. Many do not; of those who do become sick, some experience mild symptoms and do not require hospitalization. Others, however, do require hospitalization, as noted in the daily update on the number of people hospitalized. However, every person who does test positive for COVID-19 has the potential to spread the virus to other people, including family members and friends, which is why public health officials continue to encourage everyone to wear a mask and maintain at least the recommended six feet of "social distance" when in public.
